The Nordigo levers encourage the wheelchair user to sit upright at all times and utilize bigger muscles groups. Sitting upright and pushing away from the chest the wheelchair user will be making use of their larger chest muscles and relaxing the strain on the shoulders.  

Sitting upright keeps the wheelchair users head high and allows better rotation of the head meaning better situational awareness. when leaning over the wheels in a traditional propulsion method the wheelchair user has to look up and head movement is restricted.
